File this one under the rebuttals section of old "the NRA is a Republican party front group" argument. The NRA is endorsing the re-election bid of Montana's Governor
Brian Schweitzer, a Democrat. Wayne LaPierre of the NRA had this to say in a telephone press conference:
He's just done a great job defending the Second Amendment, hunting, fishing (and) access on the part of the public to public lands. He also had legislation that secured $10 million for public access. He ended the moratorium on the buffalo hunt after 16 years.
Schwietzer is a lifetime member of the NRA and has an "A" rating from the organization. His opponent,
Roy Brown, is also an "A" rated lifetime member, but the NRA has a policy of supporting incumbents in circumstances such as these. Shouldn't this serve as a pretty solid evidence that the NRA is a gun-rights organization and not a right-wing organization?
